Vitesse’s new Japanese striker Mike Havenaar says he hopes to continue his J-League scoring ways in the Dutch Eredivisie after netting his maiden goal for his new club in Friday’s 3-1 loss to PSV Eindhoven.
The 24-year-old Japan international, who joined Vitesse from Ventforet Kofu earlier this month, headed home Renato Ibarra’s cross on 84 minutes in his second appearance for his new Dutch outfit.
Speaking to reporters after the game, Havenaar conceded his goal might have been a touch lucky but hoped it was the first of many.
“My opponent was only focussed on the ball. It might have been lucky, but a goal is a goal,” Havenaar said.
“I’ll be happy if I can continue to keep scoring like I am used to doing.”
Havenaar, who won the J2-League topscorer award in 2010, netted 18 goals in 34 appearances for Ventforet last season.
